When Allah closes a door

There are moments in life when something you deeply wanted simply does not happen. A plan falls apart, an opportunity disappears, a relationship ends, or a door you were hoping would open remains closed.

At first, it can be difficult to see anything good in it. You may keep wondering why Allah did not allow things to work out when you had prayed for them and tried your best. But as believers, we know that what we see is only a small part of the picture. Allah knows what we do not know, and He sees the consequences of every path long before we reach it.

Allah says, “Perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. Allah knows, and you do not know.” (Qur'an 2:216).

Sometimes a closed door is not a punishment or a sign that your efforts were meaningless. It may simply be Allah redirecting you towards something you cannot see yet. That does not mean disappointment will disappear immediately. You are allowed to feel sad about what you lost and to wish things had turned out differently. Tawakkul does not mean never feeling hurt; it means trusting Allah even while you are hurting.

Perhaps one day you will look back at something you once begged Allah for and finally understand why it did not happen. Or perhaps you will never know the reason in this life. Either way, your responsibility is not to understand every decision Allah makes, but to trust the One who knows what you cannot.

So when a door closes, make du'a, take the lessons from what happened, and continue walking forward. What Allah has written for you will never miss you, and what He has kept away from you was never yours to begin with.
